Work has started on a new £26.8 million road that will link three towns in west Cornwall.

The Department for Transport funded more than half of the money for the scheme (£16.1m), with Cornwall Council and the European Regional Development Fund also contributing towards the cost.

The road will link Camborne, Pool and Redruth and is expected to be completed by the end of 2014.

Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin (pictured) said: “Good transport links are crucial for getting to work, transporting goods and visiting friends and family. That is why we have given over £16m to this important scheme which will relieve congestion, improve connectivity across the region and unlock new opportunities for employment.”
