A part of the A320 near Woking collapsed this week leaving a car submerged in the flooded hole.
A big water main burst undermined the A320 Chertsey road’s foundations to such an extent that the surface collapsed trapping a Vauxhall Meriva in a flooded hole three feet deep.
Police said repairs could take up to four days.
The A320 is now closed between the McLaren’s roundabout at Martyrs Lane and the Six Crossroads.
A spokeswoman for Veolia Water UK said: “We would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused by a burst 12in water main in Chertsey Road, Woking.
“There will be temporary traffic lights in place while we carry out the repair.”
