Taxi alternative Uber has decided to withdraw its low-cost UberPOP service in France, in an attempt to reduce tensions with the country’s taxi drivers.
It follows the arrest and charging of two senior European managers of the company were who have been told they must stand trial in September for “deceptive commercial practices.”
Uber argues governments are frequently unfairly protecting entrenched industries instead of adapting to the times.
London’s taxi drivers have protested against Uber operating in Britain.
The head of Uber France Thibaud Simphaud told Le Monde that the company changed its mind “in a spirit of bringing peace” with authorities.
