Carillion has been awarded the Tinsley Link road job after seeing its £11 million bid accepted by Sheffield Council.

Galliford Try, Graham Interserve, Boot and Balfour Beatty were all in the running for the contract, but Carillion came out on top.

The contractor will now build the road for the council’s Bus Rapid Transit North scheme between Sheffield and Rotherham.

The 800m long stretch of road will be built under the Tinsley Motorway Viaduct with construction expected to start in January 2014. The project is scheduled for completion in Autumn 2015.

Once complete the road the road will by-pass Junction 34 of the M1 motorway and provide an alternate route for all vehicles.
