A sinkhole that measures 30 feet deep (9m) has swallowed a car in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.

The sinkhole opened up on the driveway of a house, swallowing the Volkswagen Lupo.

The vehicle’s owner, Zoe Smith, was at home when the incident happened. No one was in the car, which is still at the bottom of the sinkhole covered in rubble.

Phil Conran, Zoe’s stepfather, told the BBC that the first time he knew there was something wrong was when he heard a ”piercing scream” and the words ”my car, my car, it’s gone”.

The local council is now carrying out an investigation into why the sinkhole appeared.
