Scottish police are to carry out an in-depth analysis of an 18-mile stretch of a major road in the Borders after one of its most notorious accident blackspots claimed the life of a motorcyclist this week.

The investigation will look at the A72 from Peebles to Galashiels after David Arnot from Perth was killed at Dirtpot Corner when his motorcycle was in collision with a Peugeot car travelling in the other direction..

Local councillors are now calling for the road to be realigned.

A police spokesperson said the probe would focus on the state of the road surface, traffic volumes, known collision sites and updated data of the numbers killed or seriously injured.
