A new app is being built to help a million travellers in southern Sweden plan and book their journeys, containing everything related to travel planning, map information and ticket purchases as well as booking on-call transport.

Kalmar Länstrafik, Hallandstrafiken, Jönköpings Länstrafik and Länstrafiken Kronoberg have collaborated in acquiring a new mobile app to be built by Norwegian company FARA, which has delivered similar solutions in Norway and Austria.

“We’ve worked closely with Kalmar since 2009 and we are looking forward to expanding our collaboration with three new counties,” says Ørjan Kirkefjord, managing director of FARA. “This is an incredibly exciting project that will affect many travellers across southern Sweden”.

In addition to Kalmar, FARA has also delivered ticket and real-time solutions to Örebro county in central Sweden and the four counties Norrbotten, Västerbotten, Jämtland and Västernorrland in northern Sweden.

“The new app is a very important part of southern Sweden’s future ticketing system, and it will be based on the standard developed by Samtrafiken (a council owned by 60 transit operators in Sweden) in their Biljett-och Betalprosjektet (the “Ticket and Payment project”).This standardisation will affect the entire future Swedish transit market, requiring us to be innovative in how we meet the new requirements. We are now looking forward to developing a new and forward-looking solution with the four counties,” says Kirkefjord

The contract for the new travel app is for four years, with an option for an additional four years. Development will take place in two stages, with the first delivery Q4 2018 and Q1 2019, and the second delivery after the summer of 2019. The app will be available for both Android and iOS.
