The new Chairman of ITS (UK) says his priority for his two-year tenure is to expand the reach of the organisation.
Dr Alan Stevens took over from Kapsch UK MD and Smart Highways Editorial Board member Sharon Kindleysides last month and says he’s particularly excited about the potential for growth in the areas of connectivity and automation.
Dr Stevens is Chief Research Scientist at TRL, which is leading the GATEway driverless car trial in Greenwich.
He says ITS has never been more relevant to transport because it has become “business as usual” in many areas of transportation and this is where ITS (UK) can support its members by providing forums where Customers and Suppliers can meet, information can be shared and where contacts can be made for mutual benefit.
He added that ITS also has “emerging” areas, so this is where we really need to listen to users, understand their needs and to communicate the benefits in a people-oriented and non-technological way, “I also hope that recent interest in areas such as connected (and automated) vehicles and data services will be a spur to attracting new organisations and expanding our reach and influence to better serve our members,” he said.
