Leading transport technology consultancy SBD has appointed Mark Garrett, COO of Ricardo plc, to its Board of Directors as Chairman.

Garrett joined Ricardo plc in 1998 and was appointed COO in 2010 following a number of key roles, including Global Product Group Director for Gasoline Engines and Head of Ricardo 2010 Consultants Ltd.

SBD says that, following the £1.5 million investment received from Albion Ventures LLP in the last quarter of 2016, it has been looking to expand and strengthen the board with “talented and ambitious individuals” who can help drive the organisation’s growth plans.

It adds that Garrett’s achievements with Ricardo plc will support SBD’s plans to exceed its 2016 growth of over 50% and the move into new markets in 2017. It says the appointment also comes at a time when the automotive technology sector is forecast to grow significantly. Between 2016 and 2020, car manufacturers are forecast to spend more than €42 billion on offering connected car services and higher levels of vehicle automation in the EU, USA and China.

“At an exciting time of growth, not only for SBD, but for the automotive industry, we were looking for someone who would further strengthen our board’s breadth of talent and background, and we are delighted to have Mark Garrett join as Chairman,” said David Bell, CEO at SBD. “I’m confident that Mark’s extensive experience in the automotive industry and strategic planning is going to make an important and positive impact on our company.”

Mark Garrett stated “I am delighted to be joining SBD’s Board of Directors and assuming the role of Non-Executive Chairman. SBD is a leader in the automotive industry and has a great track record for profitable growth which I am looking forward to supporting.”
