Seven weeks of work to provide an improved road surface on the A45/M42 Junction 6 roundabout near the NEC and Birmingham International Airport starts on Monday.

Three sections of the carriageway will be resurfaced, while road markings, signage and traffic detection loops will be replaced all round the roundabout.

Footway crossings will also be improved with the provision of tactile paving and lowering of kerbs.

The work will take place overnight, from 10pm to 5am and will be carried out in two phases, with each phase requiring the closure of half the roundabout.

Diversion routes will be via the M42 J5, M42 J9, A45/B4438 junction and A45/A452 junction. Local diversions will also be in place.

Highways Agency project sponsor Laura Mobley said: “The new surface will provide a smoother, quieter journey and also improve safety.

“People travelling to evening events at the NEC should not be affected but may experience delays as they leave the venue. Please be patient and follow the diversion signs.”
