Maintenance worker hit by van thief

A man has been arrested by Derbyshire police in connection with a serious collision which occurred in Willington in the early hours of Wednesday.

A 52-year-old man from Northamptonshire sustained serious injuries when he was in collision with a Ford Transit box van just after 2am on The Green in Willington.

The injured man had been working with colleagues in the area of The Green and was packing their vehicle, a Ford Transit panel van, when it was allegedly stolen.

The circumstances of the collision are still unclear but it is believed that the van thieves collided with the man as they drove away.

Two vans were found by police at 3.50am on Dodburn Court off Tobermoray Way in Sinfin. Both are white and one has Midland Road Maintenance written on it and the other Fyna Hire.

The man was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre where he remains in a serious condition. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

A 41-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and theft of a vehicle.
