A petition’s been launched calling for speed cameras to be introduced on the Humber Bridge.

The Hull Daily Mail reports that it’s in response to complaints about tailgating on the road, which has a 50 mph limit with 30 mph at the toll booths, but no regular enforcement.

Organiser Kerry Griffin told the paper, “There are drivers who do not stick to this limit and often tailgate the drivers in front to make those cars increase their speed beyond 50mph.

“When there is an accident caused by poor driving, in which speed is often a factor, it may close one lane, if not both of them, going north or southbound.”

She says fixed cameras are the obvious solution.

Her petition will be considered by the Humber Bridge Board on Friday.
