HERE steps up map challenge to competitors

The mapping company HERE Technologies has announced a new “freemium” pricing plan which it is being seen as a challenge competitors such as Google and Mapbox.

It says its new tool enables developers to “innovate and create solutions that will transform the way we move, live, and interact with others”.

Developers can now access a comprehensive set of 26 location-based APIs and SDKs, including maps, geocoding, geofencing, weather, and intermodal routing for free; as well as more advanced features such as turn-by-turn navigation, waypoint, and fleet APIs.

“The diversity of HERE’s freemium offering gives developers hyper specific tools to solve a range of challenges; in comparison to Google, Mapbox, and other providers, who bucket their APIs into more generalised tools,” the company says.

“Location-awareness is the foundation for our digitally connected world,” said Edzard Overbeek, Chief Executive Officer of HERE Technologies. “Building on our company’s strength of powering applications across industries, we are excited to increase developer access to our platform, enabling them to create solutions that can redefine how we move, live and interact with our communities and businesses.”
