Local and national authorities are being reminded that Small and Medium-sized businesses can be very flexible in delivering ITS solutions.
Consultancy Nicander delivers solutions on a range of intelligent transport systems including passenger information, vehicle priority, asset and fault management or complex traffic management solutions.
However when they met up at the ITS World Congress in Bordeaux Business development Manager Trevor Platt told Smart Highways editor Paul Hutton a good track record isn’t the only thing you need: “Winning business around the world is not an easy process – we tend to work for both national and local authorities but we also try to work with larger organisations to complement their activities to deliver an overall technical solution.”
He says it can still be a struggle: “Attempting to get on the tender list for a particular project, you have to be a certain size to meet legitimate tender rules. We have delivered some national systems in different parts of the world but it’s very difficult sometimes when you’re trying to tender for a particular project, you know you can deliver the complete solution but because of procurement rules that say you can’t, you can’t get on the tender list.”
