Nick Hewtison, the former owner of the Value Added Reseller, Smart CCTV (now Smart Video & Sensing) has died at the age of 58.  He had been suffering from cancer.

Nick ran Smart CCTV from 2001 until the middle of last year when he sold it to Peter Eccleson.
Peter says, “Nick was not only a good businessman who had an eye for a great product, he was also a gentleman.  Everyone here at SVS will miss him.”
Nick was the subject of a Smart Highways Big Interview last year which was printed around the time his cancer returned.  Editor Paul Hutton says, “I had the honour to meet Nick through Smart Highways and found him charming, funny and great company.  He was a fascinating interviewee for the Big Interview, and a supporter of the magazine through both article writing and advertising.  I liked him very much.”
ITS (UK) Secretary General Jennie Martin added, “Nick was a popular presence at our Interest Group meetings and his talks were always well received, combining knowledge with an easy and enjoyable style of presenting.  He served as the Honorary Secretary of our Security and Resilience Interest Group and contributed generously of his time and expertise to ITS United Kingdom.  We offer our sincerest sympathy to his family and friends at this sad time.”
Nick leaves a wife, Sue, and grown up son Tom.
