The Chairman of the European ITS body, Ertico, says that the continent is on the verge or large scale ITS deployment.
Cees de Wijs told a news conference to launch the ITS World Congress in Bordeaux that he sees there are still some challenges but that the dreams that people have had have become a reality.
He puts it down to three things; “mobility as a service, electrification and last but not least automation, and that the convergence of the three are now happening.”
He talked about a series of initiatives around automated and connected vehicle services across Europe, the alliance initiated in Finland of Mobility as a Service and thirdly the progress that has been made in cities on co-operative intelligent transport systems where communication between the car and the infrastructure leads to tangible results of less congestion, less emissions and a seamless travel experience.
He also said that issues over liability, security and swapping between human and autonomous driving
