A Freedom of Information request has led to the revelation that Essex Police have spent more than £80,000 on repairing speed cameras over the past five years.

The website EssexLive reports that between January 2012 and June 2017, £83,300 has been spent on repairing 16 damaged speed cameras across the county.

Of the 16 cameras damaged, 13 were set alight and three were struck by vehicles.

The figures, which were audited and prepared by Cubic Transportation Systems, show that 2017 has been the worst year for costs in half a decade, with £27,500 spent fixing three cameras.
