A new tunnel on Coventry’s ring road is to be transformed into a nightclub as part of Motofest 2015.

The Greyfriars Green road tunnel will be renamed The Tunnel Club as it’s transformed into a temporary nightspot for up to 5,000 people on the opening night of the three-day motoring festival.

Organisers of the event have teamed up with Coventry City Council to give the new tunnel – part of the £59 million Friargate development – a weekend with a difference.

The tunnel will be shut at 5pm on Saturday May 30 and then transformed in four hours into a nightclub with a host of top DJs entertaining revellers until 4am.

The official opening of the Greyfriars Green tunnel to the public will take place on the morning of Saturday May 30 at Motofest 2015 – with its transformation into a nightclub doubling up as the tunnel’s official launch party.

Jeremy Heaver, Motofest’s commercial director, said: “When we first took the idea to Coventry City Council I think it probably took them aback as it is a slightly left field thing to do. However they could see the potential and they really got behind us in delivering this world first event.”
