Contractors had to cut the central barrier on a stretch of the M6 to free traffic caught behind a crash on Monday.

Following an incident the M6 was temporarily closed in both directions between junction 4 and 6.

Following a police incident investigation the scene was handed back to the Highways Agency to sweep the carriageway and repair two sections of central reservation barrier which were damaged in the incident.

Earlier traffic on the southbound carriageway stuck behind the incident was freed from the scene as a result of Highways Agency contractors cutting the central reservation barrier to allow drivers to use the northbound carriageway to escape the area.
