The three podcasts from ITS America’s Annual Meeting in Detroit, sponsored by 3M Connected Roads, are all online now full of interesting discussion about safety, connected vehicles and data transfer.

The first programme features David Braunstein of Together for Safer Roads talking about an initiative to help entrepreneurs get their ideas to the next level. The edition also features 3M’s connected roads with their intelligent road signs and building infrastructure for the next generation of vehicles, ITS America’s President and CEO Shailen Bhatt and a fascinating look at the commercial opportunities of connected vehicles with the global director of connectivity from Ford.

The second programme hears from ITS America Hall of Famer Kirk Steudle, the Director of Michigan DOT who says the key to his state’s success in implementing transport technology is the governor Rick Snyder’s belief that it is OK to try something and it not work, and that if you’re not failing once in a while, “you’re not working hard enough”.  We test GEWI’s innovative new work zone warning system, hear about a new Michigan grant programme to support mobility start-ups in the state.  We visit the new autonomous test bed the American Center of Mobility near Detroit, take a tour of the 3M roadshow truck and talk to the founder of Terbine who have announced a major data exchange initiative.

In the third programme Andrew Dubner from 3M Connected Roads tells us about the growth in connectivity between what is on the roadway and in the car as the human driver no longer has to be in the middle of that relationship, we try out GM’s new connected features for traffic signals and road construction warnings, talk to Bernd Luebben from Cohda Wireless about two new projects, one in New York and the other in Sydney while we also take a tour of the exhibit hall finding out what’s new and exciting from a range of companies; Intelight, ZincFive, Gridsmart, EDI, Image Sensing Systems, International Road Dynamics and Daktronics.
