Apple is said to be targeting 2019 as the year it launches it first car.

The Wall Street Journal says that the company is calling it a “committed project” and that it’s to triple the number of people working on it.

However it’s not expected to be fully-autonomous, according to reporter Daisuke Wakabayashi, who quotes people familiar with the company’s plans.

The report adds that those familiar with Apple’s plans were sceptical that the company would be able to hit that deadline.

The Google car’s project leader, Dr Chris Urmson, has also targetted 2019 as a launch date for his self-driving vehicle in order, he says, to tie in with his son’s 16th birthday when he’s allowed to drive.
