Road contracting giant Lafarge Tarmac has won a major highways contract with Halton and Warrington Borough Councils worth up to £70m.

The contract is worth up to £7m per annum and will run for six years, with the option for a four year extension.

Lafarge Tarmac will start work for Halton Borough Council in June 2013 and Warrington Borough Council in April 2014.

The deal will see Lafarge Tarmac delivering surfacing, emergency response, winter maintenance and schemes on behalf of both local authorities.

Paul Fleetham, Managing Director of Lafarge Tarmac’s Contracting business said: “This is the latest in a string of major contract wins for Lafarge Tarmac.

“It demonstrates the strength of our offer and the proven experience we have of working in partnership with councils to deliver managed highways services.

“We are delighted to be working with Halton and Warrington Councils and will help them to unlock efficiencies through our innovative value-added solutions, and by drawing upon our technical knowledge, experience of asset planning, extensive site network and integrated materials supply capabilities.”

Cllr John Stockton, Halton Borough Council’s portfolio holder for Transportation, and Cllr Linda Dirir, Warrington Borough Council’s Executive member for Transportation, Engineering and Climate Change said: “The award of the Halton and Warrington Highways Term Contracts to Lafarge Tarmac is the culmination of a successful joint procurement exercise undertaken by both councils with a view to securing further administrative and operational efficiencies in the delivery of highway services.

“Lafarge Tarmac submitted a highly rated bid which we are confident will allow both authorities to achieve their objective of providing a high quality, value for money service which focuses on delivering continuous improvement in important areas.

“We look forward to working successfully with the company to achieve these aims.”
